With Christmas now having passed, you likely have quite a bit of money in your pocket and are willing to shell out some for some games. You can get these games however you want, but more likely than not you’re going to pick them up during the Steam Winter Sale. This year’s sale is going on until January 3rd which means you still have a little while to snag some. With that in mind, I’d like to give you my recommendations to make the game hunting a little easier.

Without further adieu, here are my top five picks for this season’s sale!

Grand Theft Auto V | $14.99

Grand Theft Auto V is an action-adventure game released by Rockstar Games in 2013. That might seem like a while and you might think the game is dying out, but it’s still standing strong with a strong player base and frequent content updates being released. The story manages to really satisfy you with an engaging plot and many exciting gameplay moments to keep you going. The online as well is very solid featuring a lot of different vehicles for you play with, a large arsenal of guns at your disposal, and many different types of activities for you to partake in. This is a game that has really resonated with me since 2013 when I mainly played on my Xbox 360 and still resonates with me to this day, can’t recommend this game enough.

Metro Redux Bundle | $8.24

The Metro series is a set of two first-person games located in a post-apocalyptic Moscow where the remaining humans reside in the Metro system fighting over resources and power. These games are based on the best-selling novel series Metro by Dmitry Glukhovsky. You take on the role of Artyom and fight many enemies from Soviets and Nazis to creatures, mutated from the nukes that ravaged the Earth. Both of these games were very memorable to me and featured very engaging plots as well as memorable battles. For $8.24, you really can’t go wrong with both these games. If you enjoy first-person shooters, this definitely is the pack for you.

Left 4 Dead 2 | $2.29

Left 4 Dead 2 is a first-person survival horror game where you take on the role of one of four survivors. These survivors being Ellis, Coach, Rochelle, and Nick. You go through many different campaigns of sorts, taking on hundreds of zombies as well as many different special infected that possess different abilities to try and stop you. Back when this game came out, I’d play it non-stop on my Xbox 360 with a few buddies of mine slaying zombies left and right. I’d be lying if I said this game wasn’t memorable, and with the campaigns from Left 4 Dead 1 on it there are hours upon hours of fun to be had. The game also features many different modes, such as Versus where a team of Survivors and player-controlled Infected battle over a campaign to make it to the end without dying. At a price point of $2.29, this is a must have for any zombie lover or co-op game fan.

Dishonored | $3.74

Dishonored is an action-adventure stealth game where you take on the role of Corvo, a bodyguard of the Royal Empress who was framed for her murder. You progress through the game in either low chaos or high chaos fashion which changes the world around you and affects how the adventure concludes. Through the game, you unlock many different abilities given to you by a mysterious man named the Outsider. These powers allow you to enhance whichever playstyle you choose. Along with it are a host of DLCs which prevent you different stories in its industrial city and allow for some extra content to sink your teeth into. Considering how cheap the game is and how much content you can get out of it, I would definitely recommend digging into this one.

Enter the Gungeon | $8.49

Enter the Gungeon is a bullet hell styled dungeon crawler where you take control of a host of different characters against many different enemy types like bullet enemies, blobs of jello, and wizards. Along with this, it features a wide array of weapons which I have to admit can be quite hilarious sometimes. There are your regular pistol type weapons that shoot out projectiles, but there are also weapons like a literal shotgun bullet that shoots out little shotguns that can go off when they hit a target. These plus an array of activatable items and passive makes for an experience with a lot of replayability so you can have a go at each and every item and see how they handle. I will say without a doubt that the game is very difficult to get a hang of but with some practice and time you’ll get better and better at it. Even as someone who never played a bullet hell before playing this, I did and still am coming back to have a ton of fun with this game. This really is a game that you do not want to miss.

Those are all my top picks for this winter sale. I should clarify that the good games you can purchase are definitely not limited to this, and there are many more that I would suggest you pick up. I just would rather not make you have to sit here for the next twenty minutes reading about each and every one. Regardless though, I hope you’re able to pick up and enjoy these games as much as I have. If you have any different thoughts on these, I’d love to hear about them!
